This installation incorporates my mother’s fabrics, textiles, and trinkets with the flowers I kept while she was sick and weaves them into the work itself. The fabric hangs so its shadows move across the wall and paintings throughout the day, slowly bringing forward elements that might otherwise stay hidden. Bringing these objects into the work is a way of staying close to my mother and keeping her present in my practice as I adjust to motherhood and mother loss. It is also a way of connecting three generations: my mother, my daughter, and myself into contemporary practice. Surrounded by what my mother left behind, I’m learning how to carry her forward while building something new for my daughter and myself.
